James Rodríguez was an inspiring move for Real Madrid back in 2014, when he was the top goalscorer of the World Cup. I remember that when he arrived, he was given the No. 10, and I thought to myself that finally, the club will have a player who deserves this legendary number. Three years later, I can say that James, just like Danilo, didn’t give himself entirely to the club, at least that’s what I felt. He undoubtedly has scored some fantastic goals and provided many assists, during this time, but he wasn’t consistent, and that is, most probably what made Zidane loan him out to Bayern.
He has arrived for €75M from Monaco in 2014 and has left now, three years later, for a fee that could rise up to about €40, if Bayern decides to buy him at the end of the loan. After his departure, Luka Modrić has been given the magical No. 10, and while I would have wished Asensio to wear it, Luka has definitely earned it over the years.
I wish James all the best at Bayern Munich, not a single goal against Real Madrid or Manchester United in the future, and a warm farewell!
